Having Dinner in a Cave on Diani Beach, Kenya
The Maldives has a restaurant underwater. Finland has a restaurant in a snow castle where everything is made of snow or ice. In New York City, you can have dinner behind a 35-ton bank vault door. Unfortunately, you won’t find any money in the vault besides what you bring in.
I’m not going to lie, all of those places are really cool! They offer a unique, one-of-a-kind dining experience that you are sure not to forget. But, have you ever eaten dinner in a cave? Yes, a cave! A large underground chamber usually surrounded by rock of some sort. Check this out!
Ali Barbour’s in Diani Beach

If you’re looking for a unique dining experience, then head to Ali Barbour’s Cave Restaurant south of Mombasa in Diani Beach, Kenya!
The cave is estimated to be at least 120,000 years old! As you go inside Ali Barbour’s, you walk downstairs descending further into the cave where you are engulfed in a rocky mass and quiet ambiance. Soft candle lighting lights the way and a large opening in the ceiling allows for customers to look up into the nighttime sky and gaze at the stars. If the weather is nice, the cave ceiling will be opened.
Ali Barbour’s is open 7 days a week for dinner only. This is perfect for those that are staying at one of the Diani Beach resorts. Most of the resorts will offer shuttle transportation to and from the restaurant.
What’s on the Menu

The menu, moderately priced, has an array of seafood entrees, beef, soups, and salads. For the non-meat eater, there is also a vegetarian menu to order from as well.
I opted for the seafood. Being on the coast, seemed like the most reasonable option to have the catch of the day. I shared the Vasco Da Gama Seafood Platter with a friend. The platter is served for two people and the seafood selection varies depending on the season. Our platter included shrimp, lobster, crab, and a few different fish options. Undoubtedly, the seafood was fresh and perfectly cooked.

A unique place to visit that you won’t be disappointed in! The perfect romantic date spot or a quiet dinner with family and friends. Add Ali Barbour Cave Restaurant to your list of places to dine at!
